Ice Fishing Prep
Congratulations on your upcoming Ice Fishing trip! The Wharf has some of the newest and nicest Ice Cabins on the lake, so you'll be amazed at how comfortable it is even though your in the middle of a frozen lake! It's just like staying in a Cabin.
You'll be driving your own vehicle to your Ice Cabin. If you've never driven on a frozen lake before, it's a fun experience! Our plow trucks are 2-3 times heavier than your vehicle and they travel the roads every day, so you can be assured you will be fine in your personal vehicle. Just make sure to keep your speed to 10mph. Faster speeds will run the risk of creating an underwater wave that has the potential to crack the ice. All ice cabins are located close to our main road so finding your way to and from your cabin is never an issue. Our staff is always happy to guide you to your cabin if you are unsure about travel on the ice. Once at your Ice Cabin, please park about 30-50 feet away from the Ice Cabin.
Our Ice 'Cabins' feature 24/7 electricity, ceiling fans, microwave, TV, DVD player, propane heat, porta-potti, table and chairs. All the bunks have mattresses. Bring bedding and pillows, most people bring sleeping bags because they're easy to pack. The ceiling fans are great at keeping the heat level even around the whole Cabin, but note that the bottom 6 inches of air space off the floor, always remains a little cool, so you'll want to keep your boots on while sitting around the table. Also, the top bunks will be slightly warmer than the bottom ones. If for some reason our generators stop running during the night, don't worry about the heat, because the propane heater does not use electricity, so it will keep working.
There are several 110v power outlets, but if you have many devices like MP3 players, Game Consoles to connect to the TV, Radios, Cell phone chargers, Boot dryers and such, bring a power strip so that you can plug them all in at once.
You can bring food and coolers, just note that the Wharf is only a phone call away and you can call ahead to order a pizza or a whole meal to go - stop in and have a drink while your food is cooking!
Now, on to the actual 'fishing' part of Ice Fishing Prep :o) We can provide 100% of the gear required to catch those tasty walleyes! In it's simplest form, all you need is a Jig rod and some plastic grubs. Jig rods are only about a foot long, using live bait and possibly a bobber. You can also try exploring different areas to fish. Bring an ice auger or you can rent one from us. Use it to travel around the local reefs, mud, and rocks that are all close by to increase your chances of limiting out. We also rent underwater cameras, which is a really cool way to watch the fish actually stalk and nab your bait. So essentially, all you really need to pack for a fun weekend of ice fishing at the Wharf, is just warm clothes!
